Details:
Ø Officially called the Prudential Cup.
Ø The second edition of the International Cricket Council's (ICC) cricket world cup.
Ø Held from June 9 to June 23, 1979 in England.
Ø Sponsored by Prudential Assurance Company and had 8 participating countries. Australia, England, India, New Zealand, Pakistan & West Indies(Test playing nations), Sri Lanka & Canada(Non Test playing nations).
Ø Preliminary matches were played in 2 groups of 4 each.
Ø The top two teams from each group then played the knock-out rounds of semi-finals and final.
Ø The matches were played as 60 overs per team in traditional white clothing and with red balls.

§ The Prudential Cup was lifted by Clive Lloyd, captain of the West Indies who started as the favorites to win the cup again.

§ In final, Graham Gooch played some hefty strokes in scoring his 32, taking England to 183/2. However, the loss of Gooch triggered the most devastating collapse in World Cup history, as England lost 8/11.
